Electronic portable instruments interface with a physical phenomenon by means of sensors and transducers in the input and with actuators at the output. In literature, there is extensive information on sensors, transducer and actuators available (Webster, 1999; Fraden, 1993; Dyer, 2001); therefore, it will not be repeated here in great detail. However, some of the most common sensors and transducers used in electronic portable instruments will be explained in detail whenever necessary.
